The McKenzie River

McKenzie RiverThe McKenzie River is the outlet of Andre Lake and is reached by a short walk from camp. Much of the river is fished by wading and casting into pools, eddies, and riffles. All fish that spawn in this area pass through the McKenzie and Andre Lake. Brook trout to five pounds, Salmon to 12 pounds, and occasional Pike are readily caught.

The wading in the McKenzie can prove a little challenging and a wading staff and studded wading boots are highly recommended. The rewards are worth the effort!

Andre Lake

Andre LakeMcKenzie RIver Lodge is located on the shores of Andre Lake. Approximately 15 miles long, this lake outlets into the McKenzie River. The Quartzite and Comeback River are tributaries to Lake Andre and also provide tremendous fly fishing.

All five species can be found in this waterbody. All the fish migrating to headwater tributaries pass through Andre lake. Whether trolling for Lake Trout, fishing shallows for voracious Pike or casting to Whitefish on a calm Labrador evening, you'll enjoy your time spent on Andre.

Quartzite River

Quartzite River

The Quartzite River is the one we've all dreamed about. Fast clear water, deep pools, boulders and plenty of huge fish. After a short relaxing hike through the Labrador bush, you'll be standing on the shore of a beautiful stretch of water. Much of the Quartzite is very narrow and casts of 30' to 40' will cover the entire river.

Landlocked Salmon and Brook Trout are the fish you're most likely to encounter. The guides will tell you to take your time and cover it all. A five pound brookie or that eight pound salmon could be anywhere.

Comeback River

Comeback RiverA trip to McKenzie would not be complete without a day on the Comeback River. This river is generally broad and shallow with a cobble bottom. Wading is relatively easy as you work the river fishing deep pools and riverbank edges. This river is full of small brookies and salmon providing great action for a beginner or experienced fisherman alike.

Despite the number of smaller fish, Brook Trout up to five pounds and Salmon over five are regularly caught in this river.
