Patagonia, Chile Fly-fish for Rainbows and Browns

Give the southern hemisphere a try and fish in beautiful South America

Chile Brown TroutMountains of ChilePicacho Fishing Lodge is located in the spectacular beauty of the Chilean Patagonia, approximately 75 miles from the city of Coyhaique. Representatives from the lodge will meet you at the Balmaceda Airport near the city of Coyhaique and will transport you to the lodge via motor vehicle and for the last leg, a twenty-minute boat ride down the Picacho River.

You’ll enjoy fishing on Lake Roosevelt, casting dragonfly and other patterns towards the Juncales, or reed beds. Watching a huge rainbow or brown trout come to the surface like a missile to take one of these dragonfly patterns is breathtaking! An abundance of other rivers and lakes are also fished, providing a variety of opportunities. Big brown and rainbow trout in large numbers are the norm here and sight-casting to these fish is an amazing experience. Your fishing experience will be enhanced by your Chilean guides who are intimately familiar with the waters in the area and who will see that your stay at Picacho lodge will be your trip of a lifetime. The guides are proficient fly-fishermen themselves who are happy to make suggestions about fly patterns and tactics typically used here. Terrestrials, dry flies streamers, and nymphs are all effective here at various times of the season. Assistance with tackle, fly patterns and other gear will be available prior to your departure. Due to the severity of the surrounding landscape, areas on the River are accessed by Catamaran jet-boats, that will include both casting from the boats and wading.

Picacho Fishing LodgeThe lodge is a beautiful building made from native wood and accommodates a maximum of 6 rods. All modern amenities are provided amidst the amazing scenery that is the Picacho River Valley, including semi-private baths and hot showers. Our guests will enjoy marvelous native Chilean foods, superb local wines, and a hot tub on the deck overlooking the river!

As you enjoy your adventure with Picacho Lodge, you are constantly surrounded by the absolutely amazing panorama of the Chilean Andes. The Picacho River valley has been largely uninhabited for hundreds of years, and a visit here is as though you’ve turned the clock back in time.
