Bahamas Fishing & Vacation
Destinations
The Islands of the Bahamas are well known for white sand beaches, spectacular diving, crystal clear waters, trophy fishing and relaxation. With nearly 30 islands in the Bahamas chain, there are many hidden gems. These less visited islands offer small remote villages, specatular scenery and a simple, relaxed way of life.
Whether you enjoy stalking the shallow flats, casting a fly to bonefish or deep water fishing, the Bahamas has it all. The waters around the islands are characterized by flats, reefs and steep drop-offs where abundant fish are found. Off shore fishing for Wahoo and Blue Marlin is also a favorite of many fisherman.
After a fun morning of fishing there are many family activities avaiable including diving, snorkeling, bicycling, kayaking, island tours, photography and sightseeing, or just hanging out on the beach. There is so much to do and see even if you are a non-fisherman.
We visited the Bahamas in the spring of 2011 and had a chance to see many of the islands and lodges. From our trip, we chose three destinations that provide great accomodations and top-notch guest services. These three Bahamian destinations offer a unique blend of trophy fishing, family adventure, and relaxation.
We found that a great way to end the day was with a drink in hand watching the absolutely breathtaking sunsets.
Mayaguana Island
Mayaguana Island is perhaps one of the least publicized islands and is under visted gem. Life here is very relaxed and runs on "Bahamas Time".
This seaside resort is located less than 100 feet from the ocean and offers beautiful private rooms, fabulous native food, and lounge area.
A variety of world-class fishing oppurtunities can be found here including flats fishing for bonefish and permit, near-shore fishing for grouper and barracuda, and off-shore fishing for wahoo, mahi-mahi and billfish.
Diving, snorkeling, and hanging out on the beach are the top relaxation activities. Boats, canoes, bicycles, scooters and cars are available for rent if you wish to tour other parts of the island. A vist to the Blackwood Point Flamingo colony is a favorite photo oppurtunity.

Andros Island and surrounding waters are considered some of the best bonefishing waters in the world. World class flats fishing can be found here and there is nothing like stalking the flats watching for mud or tailing fish. Bones are not named the "Ghosts of the Flats" for nothing. This resort also offers access to the 3rd largest barrier reef in the world.

Crooked Island
Crooked Island is located near the southern end of the Bahamas archipelago, approximately 225 miles south of Nassau. This spectacular island traces its history back to the slave trade days when many plantations were in existence here. This resort is located at picturesque Landrail Point, on the northern tip of the Island.
The staff are warm, delightful people whose sole purpose is to serve you and make your stay memorable. While fantastic fishing, both offshore and on the flats, is available here, we typically think of this resort as an ideal destination for those wishing to snorkel or dive.
Beach picnics, cookouts, boating or a tour of the famous Bird Rock lighthouse make for enjoyable days. Guests find that a great way to end the day is to enjoy fantastic sunsets and drinks at the Sunset Beach Bar, located right on the water a few steps from your room.
The cuisine here is second to none with local dishes, including conch, fresh fish, and fruits obtained locally. Rooms are beautiful, spotlessly clean and tastefully appointed with an
island atmosphere.
This lodge offers a fantastic Caribbean experience, accompanied by world-class service and amenities provided by some of the friendliest folks anywhere.
